D'ici 5 jours, le Blog Action Day frappera à nos ports (jeu de mot hors du commun), et des milliers de blogueurs (dont moi!) à travers le monde écriront tous ensemble sur un sujet nous tenant à coeur: l'environnement. Sur les 9 000 blogues participant actuellement à cette journée mémorable de la blogosphère, 6 500 000 lecteurs auront la chance de s'informer sur le sujet en même temps, incitant dialogues, débats et partage de l'information. L'environnement me tient grandement. Je suis un amoureux de la nature, de la verdure, du plein-air et de tout ce qui à attrait au sujet. Le fait de savoir que la vie sur la planète pourrait être en danger à cause de nos actions me rend malade. Je ne suis peut-être pas un grand pollueur, mais nous sommes tous responsables des actions des autres (un truc que j'ai compris en philosophie que je vous épargne). J'ai décidé de m'y prendre d'avance et d'écrire au moins un article (voir plus) avant d'écrire mon article du 15 octobre. Je vais essayer de vulgariser le plus possible la situation et les informations données, pour le commun des mortels, tout en garnissant sans aucune modération mes messages de belles photos signées Mère Nature!

En ce premier message introduisant vers le Blog Action Day, je souhaite montrer aux gens que c'est possible de parler environnement en bien, et que plusieurs bonnes actions sont prises à travers le monde pour améliorer la situation, relatives au réchauffement climatique et à l'amincissement de la couche d'ozone.

À Montréal, en 1987, des gens se sont réunis pour passer un accord international visant à réduire et à éliminer à long terme l'utilisation de substances néfastes pour la couche d'ozone. Pour ceux qui vivent sous une roche, la couche d'ozone est la partie de la stratosphère contenant une grande quantité d'ozone. La couche d'ozone sert à absorber les rayons ultraviolets du soleil qui sont néfastes pour les êtres vivants. Cet accord, connu sous le nom de Protocole de Montréal, a été jusqu'à aujourd'hui signé par plus de 190 pays à travers le monde.

L'accord vise à bannir entièrement l'usage des CFC, sauf dans certaines conditions où son utilisation est jugée essentielle, notamment en médecine. Certaines villes et pays ayant signé le Protocole de Montréal ont aussi ajouté certaines substances dangereuses à bannir, empêchés l'importation et l'exportation de ces matières ou modifiés afin d'accélérer la mise en oeuvre des clauses de cet accord.

Cet accord (20 ans après sa création) a été une réussite du début à aujourd'hui. Bien qu'il ait fallu convaincre certains pays à signataires, les résultats obtenus démontrent très bien qu'il est possible de faire des changements notables sur une courte période de temps vis-à-vis l'environnement. Grâce aux résultats obtenus, la couche d'ozone retrouvera sa structure de 1980 d'ici 2060 à 2075¹. Ça peut semblé très long sur l'échelle d'une vie humain, mais à l'échelle planétaire, c'est un objectif qui n'aurait jamais pu être atteint sans cet accord. Il a donc permis aux pays à travers le monde d'instaurer le dialogue, car si les pays ne le signaient pas, ils perdaient leur marché avec les pays l'ayant ratifié.

L'industrie est venue jouer un rôle cruciale au fil des années qui sont passées. Nortel, par exemple, avait fait la démonstration aux compagnies qu'il était possible d'ajuster ses méthodes de productions sans porter un impact négatif sur la rentabilité de la compagnie. L'industrie se motivait elle-même, créant par le fait même une communauté à l'échelle mondiale, sachant qu'ils accomplissaient quelque chose d'important.

Les pays n'ont jamais remis en question les preuves scientifiques face à l'amincissement de la couche d'ozone qui est, de nos jours, un phénomène grandement documenté. Cela prouve en quelque sorte qu'il y a du bon dans notre monde (pour ceux qui penseraient le contraire) et qu'il est possible d'agir avant même d'avoir la certitude que nos actions ont des répercussions sur l'environnement. La prévoyance, c'est une attitude très importante quand un veut prévenir les conflits et les problèmes. Je suis d'autant plus fier de savoir que cette idée vienne de ma ville natale!

Pour finir, je vous laisse sur un fabuleux proverbe qui vient de mes parents ou mes grands-parents (que j'ai appris il y a de ça très longtemps) qui clarifie parfaitement la situation: « Il vaut mieux prévenir que guérir ».
